Not just "My" Documents
I recently had a big problem with the computer . Windows just does not want to run. We had to re-install ...
And here the problem occurred. The system folder "My Documents" I saved hundreds of files, which in no way wanted to lose. It had to "upload" system from scratch, but without formatting the whole disk.
To this end, I used the second disk partition. The installation was successful, but at startup menu appears to choose between two identical systems, which, of course, a completely failed.
Unfortunately, when I ran the new system, it became clear that I do not have permission to view "my documents" on the partition of the previous system. Do not, however, gave up and tried to find online information, whether we should somehow get access to these files. In the end I knew the password to access the previous system.
With the help came Google , with which I found rather quickly on Microsoft's page , which describes this problem. I will not prescribing a solution , I just want to draw attention to one thing ...
During the recovery of Windows documents never once asked me about the password to unlock the folder "My Documents". This means that anyone who gains access to your disk, you will be able to "take ownership" your private documents regardless of whether they know the password or not. Simply connect the drive to another computer and run a different installation of Windows with Administrator privileges.
Therefore, I do not know whether or not it make sense to use the system "My Documents". If we have documents that do not need to protect, let's keep them better in their own folder on the disk. If, however, some documents we have secured, we should consider for this purpose special software - an ordinary folder "My Documents" folder on an NTFS partition, unfortunately, not enough
